Pilgrim Statue of Mary's Assumption in Lancaster County

This image of the Assumption will be crowned at the Diocesan Pilgrimage to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., on October 24. The statute will then travel to parishes, schools and institutions of the diocese for Marian celebrations throughout the Diocesan Marian Year. The 4-foot-tall statue, painted in traditional colors and decorated in gold and silver leaf, was crafted by Demetz Studio in Ortesi, Italy. It is inspired by the painting "Assumption of the Virgin" by Bartolome Esteban Murillo, painted in 1678 and now housed at the Museo del Prado in Madrid.

Gate of Heaven, hear our prayer.
Blessed Mother, lead us to your Son.
Draw us, Mary, to your heart.
Lead us home to God.

(Refrain from "Gate of Heaven," the hymn for the Diocesan Marian Year by Martin Doman)

2010 - The Year of the Volunteer

"If greed helped push us into this crisis, then generosity will be necessary to pull us out." - Supreme Knight Carl Anderson

Our Supreme Knight has asked us to make 2009/2010 "the year of the volunteer." Knights have, are, and always will be leaders in volunteerism in their Parishes and communities. As volunteerism declines, we as Knights have a moral duty to counter this trend with our time and talent.

As you look to build your programs, please keep this in mind!

You can find more information on this program on the Supreme Web Site by clicking here.

K of C Supreme launches two new web sites for Catholics.

The Knights of Columbus has two new web sites for the benefit of Catholics. The first - Headline Bistro - is an internet-based news and information service for Catholics everywhere. The second - Fathers for Good - brings forth information related to Supreme Knight Carl Anderson's message, "Fatherhood is a gift, a privilege and a responsibility."
